NEW YORK (Reuters) – Second-largest sugar producer India is set to see a three million tonne drop in production in the 2019/20 season, said executive director of the International Sugar Organization Jose Orive at an industry event on Wednesday.

Production in Thailand, meanwhile, is expected to fall by two million tonnes as farmers increasingly shift towards planting more lucrative cassava, Orive said.

Typically, almost all Indian sugar production is consumed domestically. Thailand is the second-largest exporter of the sweetener behind Brazil.
